Our Process

At Embedism, we offer a comprehensive product development service that spans every major stage — from concept to manufacturing.

Depending on your needs, your project may focus on specific stages or progress through the full lifecycle. Each phase is designed to reduce risk, optimise outcomes, and prepare your product for real-world success.

Discovery Phase

Defining Specifications and Laying the Foundation for Product Success

The discovery phase is where we define what your product will be — based on your goals, market needs, and technical constraints.

Our engineering team works closely with you to understand existing work, gather requirements, and establish clear documentation that sets the direction for the entire development process.

Key outputs from this phase include:

  • Functional Specification – A detailed outline of what your product must do

  • Initial Technical Specification – An approach to technically achieving your functional goals

  • Test Plan – Clear testing criteria for prototypes and final products

  • Project Plan – Timeline and budget, refined by deep technical analysis

  • Regulatory Overview – Certification requirements for your target markets (included when the project continues to development)

  • Production Planning Summary – Expected volumes, costs, and design constraints for manufacturing (included when production planning is part of the scope)

This phase ensures every decision that follows is informed, aligned, and strategically planned — helping to avoid delays and extra cost later in the product development lifecycle.

2

Feasibility Phase

Reducing Risk with Early Technical Validation

In the feasibility phase, we validate technical challenges that could impact your product’s success. Our team conducts focused studies and rapid prototype development to prove or disprove high-risk concepts. This de-risks future stages and provides evidence to support key engineering decisions.

You’ll receive reports and/or functional demonstrations that clarify the science behind your product concept — laying a reliable foundation for the next stage of development.

3

Concept Development Phase

Building and Testing Core Product Concepts

This is where your product starts taking shape. We design and prototype the most technically complex parts of your product, integrating proven subsystems and tackling any gaps.

We always work backwards from your production goals — considering factors like cost per unit, assembly constraints, and scalability from the start. This phase typically results in one or more proof-of-concept prototypes, which may represent key subsystems or early full-device builds.

Early-stage regulatory compliance is also factored in here, making sure the product is heading in the right direction from a certification standpoint.

4

Engineering Development Phase

Transforming Prototypes Into Functional, Testable Products

Engineering development is where detailed design meets functional reality. We refine prototypes, miniaturise systems, and integrate all required features — optimising for performance, usability, and manufacturability.

This phase includes:

  • In-depth design optimisation

  • Integration of validated components

  • Internal testing and client-side operational evaluations

  • Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to track and document critical design updates

  • Pre-certification testing, when applicable

The end result: a fully functional prototype built for real-world testing and pre-certification readiness — tailored to your use case and aligned with project objectives.

5

Design for Manufacture (DFM)

Preparing the Product for Scalable, Cost-Efficient Production

Once field testing is complete, we shift focus to production optimisation. Using your anticipated volumes and target cost per unit, we explore materials, design tweaks, and manufacturing processes to refine your product for mass production.

This phase includes:

  • DFM prototyping to verify final changes

  • Testing of new materials or component swaps

  • Design adjustments for tooling and process efficiency

  • Completion of most certification documentation

  • Preparation for formal lab approvals

The DFM stage gives you a final, tested design that’s efficient to produce and aligned with your commercial strategy.

6

Production Setup

Establishing Manufacturing Processes and Supply Chain Readiness

Production setup ensures your manufacturing partner has everything needed to begin production. Whether you continue with Embedism or transition to an external partner, we provide the full suite of documentation, processes, and support to get started.

Deliverables include:

  • Step-by-step production line documentation

  • Assembly and test instructions for line workers

  • Jig and fixture design

  • Tooling initiation (where applicable)

We’ll also identify opportunities to parallelise tasks like tooling or sample batch production, accelerating your path to market.

7

Manufacturing Management

Managing Quality, Procurement, and Production Delivery

Embedism provides end-to-end manufacturing support, managing your production partners, suppliers, and quality assurance systems. We handle component sourcing, oversee production, and implement robust QA/QC protocols to ensure consistent results.

We also conduct supplier assessments to validate reliability and quality, ensuring every part of the supply chain meets our engineering standards — and yours.
